FOMO
Muli Bwanji? How are you, FOMO is now in its 26th year,
and we remain as committed as ever to supporting over
2,500 children through our network of 14 centres,
secondary school, clinic, and various food and welfare
programmes. Despite the challenging economic climate,
our dedication to the children in our care has never wavered.
We9re thrilled to share some exciting news: Tykha has returned from
university with a well-earned degree
in Social Work Management! A
huge thank you to everyone who
contributed to funding this
achievement. With Tykha back on
board, we9re turning our focus to
improving teaching methods in our
14 preschool nurseries, especially
for the 5-year-olds who will be transitioning to standard 1 this September.
This is long overdue, as traditional rote learning (singing the alphabet or
numbers) doesn9t fully engage or challenge young minds. We9re now
working with local teachers to introduce a more balanced approach that
includes drawing, writing, dance, singing, and games, while also building
deeper understanding through more
structured methods.
Of course, challenges remain, most
notably the rising costs of essentials.
Fuel prices have soared globally, but
at £3.50 a litre, the impact is
particularly severe here in Malawi,
when fuel is even available. Long
queues are common during shortages. Over the past three years, prices
have roughly doubled on imported goods, including certain foods,
building materials, and consumables. This puts significant pressure on
