Mothers’ Union
Meeting news
Many thanks to the Members and friends who attended our June
meeting. Parys Walton from POPS, Partners of Prisoners family Support
group at HMP Wymott gave us an insight into the work they carry out in
assisting the families and helping them to adjust. We gave Parys a
further donation of knitted teddies, dolls and T-shirts and we continue to
support POPS with their current request for books for the next Family
Day in July, especially colouring, sticker and puzzle books suitable for
children and adults. Any donations would be welcome and can be given
to Sue at the next meeting or at Church.
Strawberry Tea
Our next meeting will be our annual Strawberry Tea on Thursday 9th
July in the Community Hall commencing at 2pm when we celebrate our
150th Anniversary. To assist with catering please let Sue, Ailsa or any
committee member know if you are attending.
150th Anniversary Celebration Service
It was a privilege to attend the
Service held at St Paul9s Cathedral
on 10th June together with over
1500 members gathered to give
thanks for a movement that has
grown from a small parish initiative
in Hampshire into a global Christian
organisation of four million members
in more than 80 countries.
The service opened with a procession of Mothers9 Union provincial
banners from across the UK and Ireland, alongside the Mothers9 Union
Mary Sumner House banner, representing our global community.
The Service was a Eucharist celebrated by our Patron, the Archbishop
of Canterbury, the Most Rev9d Dr Sarah Mullally. She was supported by
the Dean of St Paul9s together with a number of Bishops including our
own Bishop Phillip. This was one of the largest communion services
ever held at St Paul9s. We had an address from the World Wide
